The Journey Part 1
Around 2022, while we were faithfully gathering in our previous rented location, I sensed the Lord speak a single word to my heart: ownership.
As I continued to listen, He said, “Your landlord will eventually sell the building. Prepare to exit.”
We had no indication that our landlord planned to sell, and there was no obvious reason to start thinking about leaving. But when God speaks, He often prepares us for what we cannot yet see.
That’s one of the amazing things about walking with Him. God sees tomorrow while we’re still living today.
Because of that prompting, we launched what became known as the Exodus Project.
Our goal was to prepare for the transition before the transition ever arrived.
To many people, it probably seemed unusual.
Why raise money when there wasn’t a building to buy? Why prepare to leave when nothing had changed?
The answer was simple: obedience doesn’t require all the details.
Looking back, I realize God wasn’t asking us to raise money as much as He was asking us to build our trust.
Every gift, every sacrifice, and every act of generosity was another way of saying, “God, we trust You even when we can’t see what You’re doing.”
A couple of years later, exactly as the Lord had shown me, our landlord approached me about selling the building and even asked us if we wanted to purchase it.
God’s word had come to pass.
He even dropped the price by $100,000 for us.
We said no.
Not because we didn’t want to own a building, but because not every opportunity is a God opportunity. Just because a door opens doesn’t mean God is the One opening it.
Sometimes the greatest act of faith isn’t saying yes to what looks good. It’s having the courage to wait for what God has promised.
As you’ll see in next week's blog, saying “no” to the familiar became the first step toward something far greater than we could have imagined.
