Why Did Jesus Need Favor?
Why Did Jesus Need Favor?
Luke 2:52
Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Jesus is God incarnate. This is a central doctrine of our Christian faith.
God became flesh. God became human. God became a man. God became a man in the form of Jesus Christ. Therefore, Jesus is 100% God and 100% man all at the same time.
The only act Jesus performed on the earth in His divinity was to be our substitutional sacrifice.
He was whipped, beaten, nailed to the cross, died for all of our sins, and was resurrected on the third day so that all who believe and confess this will be made in right standing with God.
Thank God for Jesus!
However, everything else Jesus performed on the earth He accomplished as a human being who was filled with the Holy Spirit. All of the healings, all of the provisions, and all of the miracles were accomplished as a spirit-filled believer of God.
He is our example.
Jesus Himself said that you and I would do greater things than even He did on the earth (John 14:12).
In Luke 2:52, Jesus shows us how He achieved all of His results on the earth. He increased in favor.
Jesus had to grow, develop and mature in the favor of God.
There is more favor available to you.

1 Samuel 2:26
And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men.
The Old Testament judge, priest and prophet Samuel also increased in favor.
Since God is no respecter of persons and both Jesus and Samuel can increase in favor, then so can you!
Why did they increase in favor?
I believe this verse answers our question.
Romans 5:17 AMPC
For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Adam's disobedience and sin separated us from God.
However, much more, if you will believe and receive the abundance of grace, which is favor, and the free gift of righteousness, you will reign in life. Righteousness means you are in right standing with God and He is treating you as if you have never sinned.
The word “reign” means to have authority, dominion, rule and control. But there is another definition of “reign” that made an impression on me.
To reign means to have influence and impact.
If you will receive the abundance of favor and the gift of right standing with Him, you will have influence and impact on this earth.
God needed Samuel to have influence and impact on the earth, so Samuel needed to increase in favor.
God needed Jesus to have influence and impact on the earth, so Jesus needed to increase in favor.
God needs you to have influence and impact on the earth, so He needs you to increase in favor.
That’s what the favor is for.
While you may never be famous or visible, you can still influence and impact individuals in your sphere with the favor of God operating in your life.
Favor encompasses much more than getting free things and good parking spots.
The purpose of favor is to make an impact on someone's life that cannot be erased.
Shout, “I am favored!”
